Short career outline Maureen Salmon is a consultant and founder director of Freshwaters Consultancy Ltd - a management consultancy firm working across the statutory and non-profit sectors, mainly in the creative industries. Freshwaters Consultancy works in the areas of leadership, organisational, strategic project and programme development, and in collaboration with other consultants and consultancies. Maureen´s background in the arts and culture strengthens her organisational and executive experience. She has a Master of Arts in Arts Management from the City University, London; Bachelor of Arts in Education and Dance from the University of Surrey; and a Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education, University of London. Seen as a pioneer of cultural change and leadership development, Maureen helped put diversity on the arts sector map back in the 1990s when she worked for South East Arts Board. She has since successfully demonstrated the business case for diversity in leadership and organisational development as drivers of organisational change. Maureen works in an international arena including European Union, China, Singapore, United States, the Caribbean and Brazil in partnership with organisations to develop and deliver innovative projects and programmes. Maureen´s ability to transfer knowledge, experience and skills across sectors regionally, nationally and internationally has been most recently applied to her work with the Cultural Leadership Programme (CLP). Maureen has worked on two of the CLP’s major programmes: Peach Work-based Leadership Programme and the Powerbrokers International Leadership Placements. She has developed alliances with the leading decision makers in the cultural sector and has secured numerous work-based leadership development placements both in the UK and abroad. Maureen has collaborated with a number of senior leaders at prestigious cultural institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Opera House London, Jazz at Lincoln Centre, New York, the National Library of Jamaica, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the National Museum of Singapore, Beijing Modern Dance Company, Centro Cultural Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, Barbados to create leadership development opportunities for new talent to develop and contribute to the sustainability of the cultural and creative industries. Maureen has held a number of senior non-executive positions including a member of Futurebuilders Advisory Panel, a board member of Badejo Arts, London Central, London First and local council member of the Learning & Skills Council London Central. In 2001, Maureen was a finalist in the ´European Union of Women of Achievement Award´. This was in recognition of her "contributions to Pan-European understanding and progress, and for providing inspiration to others". In 2000, she was one of the women awarded ´Women of the Year´ at the Millennium Festival of Women´s Work and was also awarded the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners´ Professional Award. Maureen is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and holds a number of professional membership for example, Member of the Institute of Business Consulting and Associate Member of Chartered Management Institute.
