Short career outline Jill Trew has worked in travel and tourism as a researcher, journalist, editor and consultant for 30 years. Based in Hong Kong for 15 years, she researched and wrote on China and other emerging Asian tourism destinations for travel industry and consumer publications in Asia, Europe and the USA, among them The Far Eastern Economic Review, the EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) tourism publications, Business International, Asia Travel Trade and the China Guides Series (of which she was series co-editor). On her return to London, she contributed to the EIU´s subscription travel and tourism publications, focusing on tourism in Central and Eastern Europe, and became senior editor at Travel and Tourism Intelligence (successor to the EIU´s travel and tourism division). Now a senior partner in The Travel Business Partnership, she has recently worked on consultancy and research projects for both private and public sector clients, among them the European Travel Commission, VisitBritain, Tourism Ireland, Reed Exhibitions and Global Insights. Projects have covered specific tourism market segments such as urban short breaks, cultural tourism, luxury travel, touring, education and youth travel, and outbound travel demand from key source markets including China, Russia, Southeast Asia, Japan, France and the Middle East. She has practical experience of the travel industry, having worked for several years as a tour manager with Lindblad Travel Inc to open up the China travel market to group travel.
