Short career outline
Professor Michael Hitchcock is the Director of the International Institute for Culture, Tourism and Development at the University of North London. He was the Director of the Institute for Pacific-Asia Studies at Hull University and has held posts at the Horniman and Liverpool Museums. He is well-known as an arts, anthropology and cultural policy expert and specialist adviser for the BBC, CNN, Sky and BBC World Services. He has conducted and led research in major projects in South-East Asia, Europe and East Africa. His books include Indonesian Textiles, Tourism in South-East Asia, Islam and Identity in East Indonesia, Images of Malay-Indonesian Identity, Building on Batik and Souvenirs: The Material Culture of Tourism
